Extraordinary pan Africanist and insightful analysis and warning by the Hero of Thabo Mbeki Foundation’s Africa Day Lecture, Prof Abdoulaye Bathily, who aptly described the danger of not only the second scramble for the colonisation of Africa’s resources and economies, but also the implicit co-optation of some political leaders on the continent more interested in attending meetings with one head of state’ outside of Africa as a group of 53-odd heads from Africa, than meetings of the AU. In my brief interaction with this superb and well-travelled champion of all things-pan African, I cheekily dared him to explore his thesis in bookform under the banner of Skotaville, to which he diplomatically replied that he would think about. The youngstet from Sacred Heart College displayed bold leadership in introducing himself to the guest speaker and yours truly afterwards.
